Five years ago, Spider-Man fans got their first glimpse at the Spider-Verse on the big screen with the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.
Since then, the film gained both commercial and critical success, earning more than $300 million in the box office and winning numerous awards, including the Best Animated Feature Award at the 91st Academy Awards. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse has since been regarded as one of the best superhero films and animated films of all-time, gaining millions of fans all over the world, and spawning sequels, including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which was released just last June to similar success.
But last December 30, fans got a chance to relive the experience of seeing the film for the first time as The Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse concert made a stop in Manila, with two showings scheduled at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Fans of the Webslinger flocked to the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier in Taguig to rewatch Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, this time with a live orchestra, turntables, percussions, and electronics accompanying the film’s score and soundtrack, which was created by English composer and songwriter Daniel Pemberton.
Aside from being reunited with Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, and other versions of the Wall-Crawler such as Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham, the concert also enhanced the film’s heartwarming moments and exciting battle sequences through the live orchestra, turntables, and percussions. The turntable, in particular, serves as an ideal complement to the film’s unforgettable soundtrack, which features artists such as Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Swae Lee, and Jaden Smith.
For non-fans, The Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse concert serves as a different way to watch a beloved animated film. For fans who have seen the film multiples times, the concert further enhances and elevates the experience of watching one of the best superhero and animated films of all time. One can only hope that future visits to the Spider-verse will also be accompanied by a live orchestra, turntables, and electronics, as it is truly a different way to experience films.
