Preparing a savory and budget-friendly spicy tuyo pasta – Beyond The Plate

When asked what the best Filipino breakfast is, most of us would agree that many would answer tuyo (salted dried fish). It is usually paired with garlic rice, egg, tomatoes, and spicy vinegar. Because of its ability to bring the perfect saltiness into a dish, Filipinos have been exploring various ways to use this quintessential Filipino comfort food in different recipes-ranging from soups to salad dressings.

In an episode of Beyond the Plate on Plus Network, celebrity chef Alyana Asistio shared a recipe for cooking spicy tuyo pasta to level up our favorite breakfast staple into an all-day meal.

Spicy Tuyo Pasta

Ingredients: Minced Garlic, Pasta, Olive Oil, Garlic Powder, Dried Fish (Tuyo), Parsley, Salt and Pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan.
  2. Saute garlic in the pan.
  3. Once the garlic is brown, fry the dried fish.  (set aside some dried fish for garnish)
  4. Season with garlic powder, pepper, and salt.
  5. Once the sauce is cooked, add the pasta to the pan. (Make sure that the amount of pasta matches the amount of sauce. This is so the pasta will not come out too dry or oily.)
  6. Garnish with some chopped parsley.
  7. Top with parmesan cheese. (You can add a lemon slice on the side. Seafood is best served with something citrus.)

Today’s dish is spicy, salty, and savory, not to mention budget-friendly and easy to make. This dish is perfect for people who are busy and always on the go! Enjoy making this dish for your family!
